What causes dry cough in babies?

Although the baby's dry cough is a self-protection behavior, we should also understand it because there are many causes. It may be caused by a cold, or it may be caused by sudden stimulation of cold air. In addition, it may be caused by upper respiratory tract infection or bronchitis, which needs to be treated as soon as possible.

From a physiological point of view, the reason why babies have dry coughs is a self-protection behavior. It can completely expel foreign objects in the respiratory tract and keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. It will be helpful for personal health. However, in this process, everyone is also very worried about the reason for the baby's dry cough?
1. Cold
If the baby has an itchy throat, coughs during the day or at night, always has an obvious runny nose, and is also accompanied by a low fever, then at this time we should know that the baby is likely to have a cold, because most of the coughs caused by colds are dry coughs, but the situation is not very serious and can be improved by taking medicine.
2. Cold air stimulation
Cold air stimulates the respiratory mucosa, which will cause congestion, edema, exudation and other inflammatory reactions, thereby inducing coughing. At first, there is no microbial infection, but over a long period of time, it can be secondary to toxic bacterial infection. Therefore, for infants and young children who stay indoors for a long time, sudden exposure to cold air is likely to cause irritation and trigger a severe dry cough.
3. Allergic cough
If the baby continues to have severe coughs repeatedly, especially when crying or exercising, the coughing is more serious and is also accompanied by shortness of breath, then it should be considered that this may be caused by allergic cough. For example, the probability of occurrence is higher during the pollen season, or it may be caused by the use of antibiotics. In this case, treatment is needed as soon as possible.
4. Upper respiratory tract infection
If a child has an upper respiratory tract infection, the child's nasal mucosa will become inflamed. When breathing, the child will unconsciously inhale dry air, making the nasal cavity more uncomfortable and even causing a more severe cough. Therefore, when the child is at home, the mother can appropriately use methods such as a humidifier to increase the air humidity and reduce the irritation of the dry air to the child's nasal mucosa.
5. Bronchitis
Most children with bronchitis are under 3 years old. The cough caused by pediatric bronchitis mainly occurs in children around 1 year old, and is common in spring and winter. Bronchitis initially irritates the upper respiratory tract, causing dry cough in children, and then produces bronchial secretions, which aggravates the cough.
6. Pharyngitis
Discomfort of the pharyngeal mucosa often stimulates children to cough. This situation is more serious. Once the throat itches, they can cough. In this case, parents cannot solve it by themselves at home. They should seek medical attention in time and ask the doctor to make a clear diagnosis and treat the symptoms.
