Is Kawasaki disease contagious in infants?

Is Kawasaki disease contagious in infants?

Infant Kawasaki disease is not contagious, that is, it cannot be transmitted from person to person through contact, droplets, etc. Although its exact cause has not yet been fully clarified, it can be ruled out as an infectious disease directly caused by viruses or bacteria.

Kawasaki disease is a common acute systemic inflammatory disease in children, usually in children under five years old. Its main feature is a fever lasting more than five days, which may be accompanied by rash, red and swollen eyes, swollen hands and feet, chapped lips, swollen lymph nodes, etc. Studies have shown that Kawasaki disease may be related to abnormal immune response and can be affected by multiple factors such as genetics, infection, and environment.

If not treated promptly, Kawasaki disease may affect cardiovascular health and even cause coronary artery disease, which is the most important complication to watch out for. However, with timely treatment, most children can fully recover and return to normal life. For children with mild but suspected symptoms, please pay attention to whether they have a persistent high fever and seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Parents should learn to recognize early symptoms. If there are obvious systemic inflammation symptoms after a few days of fever, it must be taken seriously. At the same time, pay attention to letting children maintain a balanced diet, enhance immunity, and avoid excessive contact with possible sources of infection during the peak period of the crowd, which will help reduce the pressure on the body's immune system. If a child has the above symptoms, be sure to take the child to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible.
